LAMBERT'S DREAMY NEW SINGLE AFTER DARK IS RELEASED TODAY

WORDS RACHEL EDWARDS - PHOTOGRAPHY CIARON CRAIG

LAMBERT is the dreamy electro-pop artist inviting us to join her as she explores solitude and independence in her latest single ‘After Dark'. Behind the project is London-based producer and songwriter Grace Lambert, who has made a name for herself through her cinematic soundscapes and dystopian storytelling, along with her highly creative TikToks (if you've seen her ‘making Charli XCX's 'Apple' out of apple sounds' then you’ll know what I mean).

The latest single is the first track from her EP ‘Human Nature’, set to be released in February 2025. In keeping with her archetypal ‘sad girl’ music, there is a strong undercurrent of nostalgia, amplified by dark synths and haunting vocal layers. 'After Dark' takes the listener on a journey centred around the universal quest to find your own voice in a world of chaos.

Having been compared to the likes of Goldfrapp and Air, she’s already caught the attention BBC Music Introducing who described her as having an “incredible, unique sound”. And the music video for After Dark, which drops on the 25th October, shows the artist's talents don't end in the recording studio. Directed and edited by LAMBERT herself, the surreal video takes place in a bedroom set inside a fishbowl, showing the tension between isolation and being watched and the conflicting feelings that come with it. In a world where we’re constantly being ‘surveyed’, do we have any control over how we're perceived?

The EP will dive deeper into themes of alienation and disconnection, exploring how today’s obsession with nostalgia stems from unfulfilled futuristic promises. With LAMBERT performing in FEMMESTIVAL in January and 'Human Nature' being released in February, if she's not on your radar yet, she soon will be.
