João Carmo and Pablo Garrido Carreras explore the bittersweet feeling of abandoning love in the quest to follow a dream far from home in their short film 'When I was Green in Judgement'. The film, which was shot on 16mm over the course of two days in London last winter, blends a series of intimate portraits and documentary-style imagery, and is narrated with a pre-recorded poem written by Carmo. The result is a poignant narrative that resonates with anyone who has left a place to pursue a dream and the emotional sacrifices that come with it.
The idea for the project came from the shared experiences that the pair had of living in London—a city where solitude intertwines with hope and broken dreams. Steeped in nostalgia, 'When I was Green with Judgement' is a delicate, dreamlike short that speaks to the universal human condition. It invites the audience to explore the depths of longing, the beauty of fleeting moments, and the complex dance between aspiration and emotional upheaval. Watch 'When I was Green in Judgement' here:
