WORDS MAISIE JANE DANIELS
Chloe Moriondo, throws open the floodgates and invite you to dive in, headfirst, with a wink and a splash. At just 22, Chloe is already the reigning indie-pop darling, spinning glitter, grit, and a little bit of mischief into every track she touches. Upon discovering more about with this emerging star what was immediately clear that she’s not just making music; she’s building a whole universe. Her latest single, “Hate It,” has dropped today and let me tell you its going to have you bopping around your bedroom. Chloe calls it her “murderous adoration” song because, well, of course she does. There’s no one better at marrying the utterly unhinged with the painfully relatable. Whether she’s singing about envy so sharp it feels like a crush or sharing her deeply specific love-hate relationship with eating in bed (crumbs be damned!), Chloe is refreshingly, unapologetically herself.
With her forthcoming album, Oyster (dropping March 28th!), Chloe continues her oceanic odyssey, exploring themes of independence, heartbreak, and the messiness of growing into yourself. Oh, and let’s not forget: she’s about to embark on a 20-date tour across the US and Canada this spring. If the energy she’s bringing to this interview is any indication, fans are in for a wild ride (and possibly some creepy eye contact—Chloe’s words, not mine). So, watch the video to "Hate It" below and get swept up in Chloe’s world with our exclusive interview.
Maisie Daniels: Chloe, welcome to F Word Magazine! How’s 2025 been treating you so far?
Chloe Moriondo: 2025 has been a sweet little treat so far! This year feels like it has a good energy to it. I’ve gotten to release two songs already(!!!!!), so that’s made the year feel so exciting and full of potential.
MD: Tell us about your journey to becoming the artist you are today. What has that path looked like for you?
CM: I think there’s never been another path for me than being a musician— this has been my dream since I was able to dream and I was definitely determined to make it happen (though I didn’t know how besides making YouTube covers and writing songs)!! A very beautiful and kind group of people in the universe just really fucked with my renditions and writings, and then it very quickly rolled into this big sticky sparkly thing that my 22 year old life is today.
MD: Your new single ‘Hate It’ drops today (February 19th)! It’s so so catchy—feels like we could all use a bit of ‘Hate It’ in our lives right now. What inspired you to write this track?
CM: Hehehe — this is silly, okay — I was really obsessed with One Of Your Girls by Troye Sivan when I was writing it and kind of wanted to make my own pop strut song and I predictably ended up infusing themes of murderous adoration.
MD: What do you hope listeners take away from ‘Hate It’?
CM: I hope anyone who listens to Hate It has a really good 15 seconds of dancing like they’re in a movie scene for a second and also thinks about their crush/mortal enemy.
MD: What did you learn about yourself during the creation of ‘Hate It'?
CM: I learned that there are elements of my writing that will continue to pop up and develop whether I like it or not! I quickly realised I created Bodybag and Plastic Purse’s slimier sexy eldest sister/cousin maybe.
MD: Let’s play a quick-fire round: ‘Hate It’ or ‘Rate It’?
- Eating in bed
CM: HATE it but also RATE it. Can’t stand the crumbs but can’t stop making em'. Story of my life!
- PDA (Public Displays of Affection)
CM: RATE it unfortunately. It sickens me to see it in others, especially when I’m single but if I’m the one being smooched in the street or at the bar, I’m over the moon for it.
- Singing in the shower
CM: RATE IT! That’s for everyone. If you’re bad I’ll just put headphones in.
- Animals in costumes
CM: HATE and ALSO RATE. It's sooo cute when done correctly and I’m jealous cus my cat would never let me.
MD: Your album Oyster is set to drop on March 28th—so exciting! What made you choose name ‘Oyster’ for the album?
CM: It was actually the first idea of the album that came to my head! I’d written none of it yet. I wanted to write an aquatic/sea-themed album, and the phrase “My world is an oyster” had been tossed around in my brain. Coincidentally my mother ate oysters in the delivery room after all of her children’s births, including me. >:)

MD: How long has ‘Oyster' been in the making, and how excited are you to finally share it with the world?
CM: Oyster’s been in the making since the beginning of 2023. I am POSITIVELY BUZZING, BURSTING AT THE SHELL, BUBBLING WITH EXCITEMENT to share it with every creature in the sea and above. It really means a lot to me; the people who have waited this long for a new album deserve the amount of care I’ve put in and will continue to put in ♡
MD: You’ve previously released the heartbreakingly beautiful single ‘Shoreline,’ which feels in contrast to ‘Hate It.’ What can fans expect from the rest of the album?
CM: I think they can expect a lot of that same duality. The album encapsulates a lot of the insane highs and near life-ruining lows of newfound independence, learning about yourself, and feeling truly alone for the first time in what feels like your entire life. So.. a lot of partying and smiling and crying and dying!!
MD: Aquatic themes run through your previous releases and ‘Oyster’—do you have a personal connection to the ocean?
CM: I’m from Michigan, so we’re a very freshwater aquatic state. I love the ocean though and have since I was little! Since reflecting after my last album/through personal events of the past couple years... I’ve been yearning for sea. So I brought it/imagery of many other bodies of water to me! :)
MD: What’s your spirit animal?
CM: I don’t think I necessarily Have a spirit animal per se.. But if I were an animal, I’d probably be a lamb, curly pony, or sea angel. No specific order.
MD: If ‘Oyster’ was a colour, a taste, and a temperature, what would it be, and why?
CM: A colour: bioluminescent blue, because it is glowy and oceanic.
A taste: salty and a little bit sweet, cus of the sea and cus of me.
A temperature: that shift between lukewarm to cold when you get a little deeper into the ocean on a sunny day, because... I said so.
MD: If 'Oyster’ were the soundtrack to a film or TV series, what would the title and plot-line be?
CM: The title of the film would be: Compartmentalization For Dummies. It would be a short film about a writer/tour guide who works at an aquarium in a landlocked state. She moves to Califfornia, goes through a traumatic event, vaguely processes it, and then immediately goes through continuously way worse traumatic events subsequently interweaved with parties, crushes, and plenty of heartbreak. The movie ends with her accepting her baggage and finally visiting her home state to write about it.
MD: You’ve got a busy spring ahead with a 20-date US/Canada tour in April and May. How are you feeling about hitting the road?
CM: I am ITCHING to tour. I can’t wait to share this album with everyone in person and finally look at everyone in the eyes all creepy-like and make them dance with me after this long. The visuals and live experience for this album are very very important to me. It will be so special and awesome.
MD: What track are you most excited to play on tour
CM: There’s an unreleased song that’s planned to be on deluxe .. it is likely going to be my favorite to play, I must say. Hehehe.
MD: Do you have any must-haves for your rider?
CM: It’s been a while since I’ve updated my rider to my current liking, but off the top of my head: throat coat and/or peppermint herbal tea, peel-able clementines, cheese and meat tray, veggie tray, and the runner’s favorite pickled item or tinned fish. Gotta add a little weird one just for me. I also like to make sure everyone in the band and crew gets what they need for pre/post show, obviously :)
MD: Is there a genre you haven’t explored yet that you think you might dive into on a future project?
CM: I want to do literally everything. I mean EVERYTHING!! Next will probably be either a version of rock (I really wanna learn how to scream….) or ambient shoegazey stuff. Maybe folk! Maybe rap? I have so much life to live.
MD: What can we expect from you in 2025?
CM: A lot of music, a lot more confidence, and hopefully a lot more of ME IN GENERAL >:3 You thought you’d seen the last of this freaky little fish face!!?? You thought wrong!!
MD: This is F Word Magazine, so we have to ask—what’s your favourite ‘F’ word?
CM: Probably fuck. If I’m not allowed to say that.. fawn :)
