A DAY IN THE LIFE: UPSAHL

SPECIAL THANKS SONY MUSIC

If you haven’t heard of UPSAHL yet, let us catch you up on some of her impressive accolades: she has written and co-written pop hits for icons like Dua Lipa, Demi Lovato, Madison Beer, GAYLE, Dove Cameron, and more. To date, she’s amassed an incredible 700 million streams worldwide, just to scratch the surface.

She's currently exploding on the scene with her electrifying new single, “Tears on the Dancefloor,” an empowering track with a dark twist. F Word was eager to dive deeper into this single and gain an exclusive look at A Day in the Life of UPSAHL while she’s on her Melt Me Down Tour. From breakfast to bruises, this is a feature you won’t want to miss!

F Word: If you had to assign a temperature, a colour and a taste to your new single, what would it be?

Upsahl: Tears on the Dancefloor is 32 degrees, it's blue, and it tastes like blood - watch the music video if you're confused!

F Word: What was the biggest change you made to the single during the writing process?

Upsahl: The first idea we had for the song was actually the end of the second verse, which made me feel like the song should be called "Slippery..." And the idea of all the ways to make something slippery (sweat, tears, etc) came from that, which inspired the first lyrics of the song, "tears on the dancefloor, dripping in sweat." That immediately defined what the energy of the whole song should be.

F Word: What are you hoping people will take from this song?

Upsahl: I hope people can dance and cry to this song and feel a little bit empowered doing either of those things.

F Word: What genre could you see yourself experimenting for a future project?

Upsahl: I would love to do a fully stripped down album on guitar one day, and would also love to do a full blown cunty euro house project one day.

F Word: If you had to choose one component for a great song, what would it be?

Upsahl: A feeling. Fuck the production, fuck the melody, fuck the lyrics, the concept, the "cleverness..." All of the songs that I love just make me feel something, like they bring out an emotion in me that I didn't know I was feeling before listening to it.
